I just completed the 4 day Commercial and Small Farm Training course presented by Practical Aquaponics, I have to say it is worth every cent. If you are planning on doing Aquaponics commercially at any scale you need to get along to one of these.
The information presented covers all aspects of commercial aquaponics from the initial business planning (the financial stuff we all want to ignore in the beginning), through system design and building to details that we would not have even thought of. I have been trawling through the internet, this forum and Murrays videos over and over in my efforts to learn about both aquaponics and commercial aquaponics and even with all the background knowledge I had acquired there was still much more to be gained from this course.
Even with my pilot system designed and into the build stage, I found many useful details and tips that have prompted me to go back over my original design modifying it based on what I know now. It is a pilot system that I am building to test out my ability to build and maintain an aquaponics system and produce regular / reliable produce, if successful I would then like to move to something more serious. Once fully complete the pilot system will have the following features;
- 3 fish tanks (2 X 1000L and 1 X 1250L)
- Swirl Filter (With Mineralisation tank)
- Medical / purge tank (200L)
- 9.6 m^2 of media beds
- 45 m^2 of Raft beds
- 6 m^2 of wicking beds
If you are serious about wanting to have a go at making a dollar or more from aquaponics then this course is an absolute essential.
