Seems Susanne Lenore Friend, & Timothy M. Mann, of Friendly Aquaponics were growing more than just veggies.
Huge drug bust, 280+ plants found in the owners home and another 2000 along with weapons also involved.

Kind of stupid for people with such a high public profile and web presence...
Hope this doesn't rub off on "aquaponics" in general...

That is "interesting" to say the least.
Evidently, to make a profit, one needs to grow the "right" crop and use it in some kind of "religious" ceremony.
I have been wondering why I am not rolling in cash with all the effort I am putting in !!!!! Not growing and selling the right crop :crying: so that's it !!!!!
It is not about the filters or grow bed depth after all .......:frustrated: Dammnnnnn misleading info.....

Yes very silly to get involved in that stuff. They were a rising star on Google with loads of potential...I don't get the church ministry thing and the $400 donations...must be a way to circumnavigate cannabis laws in the US.

It is a shame....
The church and donations, may be more of an attempt to avoid being prosecuted for tax evasion.
Now, to find a little humor in a bad thing...........
Murray, you could make a sequel to the Secrets video....The Real Secrets of Aquaponics. How about....Friendly Weeds In Aquaponics....you could show all the different weeds that are edible. Then move on to the benefits of hemp and it's seeds. Then finish up with the 'cash crop'..........:D

Its the bags of hydroton that come from hydroponic dealers. They have been contaminated with hemp seeds

This is the reason I hesitate to use the word "hydroponics". In the US it's almost exclusively used in association with "hydro": http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hydro

This stuff is legal in California. Their mistake was doing this in Hawaii. Kind of weird to try to use a religious front for this. People have tried to use the religious freedom argument to circumvent the drug laws. It hasn't worked.
Here in California all you need is a doctor's recommendation, which is way easier to get than a prescription. A doctor can recommend for practically anything. Pain, anxiety, insomnia, one guy on the radio said he had anxiety, when asked what for he said he was anxious when he didn't have cannabis. :D
Kind of silly really, all this trouble over a plant that is less harmful than alcohol.
As far as aquaponics is concerned, I don't think it has much to worry about. The cannabis growers in here claim that cannabis won't grow in aquaponics, not enough phosphorus.

I just watched their short little video on Friendly Aquaponics and noticed an interesting clip of a heap of pineapples growing in what looks like a floating raft system. (But no where did I see their main crop at all)
Check it out:

I might try growing pineapple. The Sunshine Coast is home to the Big Pineapple after all...
Anyone ever grown it?
