Guys, is it possible to use lemon juice to acidify the water? Has anyone tried it. It defn works in my test kit but can the fish and plants handle it??
Please help, I am going away for 3 days and won't have cellphone reception so need to fix this before I go. My pH is coming down nicely on it's own (system new, cycling about 10 days now), but I loose water so have to top up about 2L per day. My tapwater is 8.3 and there is no rainwater available currently.:frustrated:

If you're going away... and the pH is coming down anyway... as you cycle...

Then don't worry about it... you wont be there to do any top ups anyway...

Deal with it when you get back... test the pH first....

Lemons will work... depending how big your tank is... and how many lemons you use...

Hydrochloric Acid... pool acid.... is much more powerful... and quicker...

But if you're only doing small top ups.... dose the top up water with the lemons...;)

White vinegar, from fermented spirits also works.
I'm assuming your planning some sort of auto topup with pretreated water.

How big is your system?

If you are only going away for three days that's approx 6ltrs of water, half a bucket. I wouldn't be concerned and just top it up when you get back. Your fish won't even miss you
