I hope everyone has faired well through the floods...
but these are the floods you had to have!...
I was watching a tv program on the Murray-Darling a while back and there was a scientist on the show saying that the next time the Murray-Darling flowed it had better be a reeeeally good flow. A mediocre flow would kill the entire river system and the lower lakes in SA stone dead.
He showed examples of water holes along the length of the system where the mud hadn't been getting regular flushes and sulphur (I think) had built up to the point where the mud had a bright yellow, thick, crusty layer over the top of it, which when wet turned into sulphuric acid.
Some of the not-quite-dried-up waterholes had water sitting in them that was so acidic that the scientists had to wear waste high rubber waders and rubber gloves just to take a water sample, if they were to get the water on their skin it would supposedly peel their skin off!... from memory I think the pH was 1.0
At least now the Murray-Darling is going to get a new lease on life, we've been given another opportunity to save it. The pollies would want to get it right, coz this might be their last chance.

Listen Yabbies-Sweetie! I'm not sure that Murray-Darling's wife would be real pleased at him having to get a real good flow to get rid of his stone deads!
I agree that flushing him will give him a new lease on life . . . but really . . . making it so public . . . and on his web forum too!
Shame, next we know you will probably pen something about Frank-Dearest! or Lou-Lovey!!
Cheers Iannie-Peannie :D

I thought about what I'd written... after I'd posted it, but I thought "No, nobody will touch that!"... how wrong I was!
I agree that flushing him will give him a new lease on life
I thought he woulda done that when he was in California! :D... when in Rome!
Start the day off with wheatgrass smoothie, spend a few hours at a solarium, chow down some raw fish wrapped in seaweed at a horrendously expensive restaurant, stop off at Macca's to fill the gap that the sushi didn't, then end the day by paying some would be actor called Sebastian $100 to stick a garden hose up your bum... isn't that how a normal day goes over there! :D

I have a vested interest. Sorry for the flooding but if the water comes down the Murray, im happy :)
Bear in mind, the Murray down the end (in 25 mins from the mouth) looks totally different than 9 months ago, its looking real good.

We lost the carpet in the master bedroom. I think we had about 40mm in 20mins. just too much for any amount of drainage to handle. Came straight over the retaining wall at the back and through the door.
but, at least it wasn't because the roof collapsed or anything.
System managed just fine, though i have a little algae again. might be time to tarp it up for a week or two again.
