i have just read, most steels need to be coated,
I have a flood and drain setup, The actual Fish tank is a large plastic container 220L that is food grade, The grow bed the only metal part
is it worth the risk of using it?

Yeah, better post a picture. If it was for a worm farm, perhaps its ok. But then, nobody wants to give you a bum steer
Its best you ask first like you have, just will have to wait for the right advise after the pics. Cheers.

In an ideal world I would not use it, but......I doubt that you will come down with some strange disease overnight. More junk, poisons and so on in buying supermarket , so called "fresh veggies"
Moving towards sustainability and better food is a step by step process and with each step improving on the last.

I agree with Murray from the aspect of we all more than likely have way too much toxins in our system from just living . But then again I said I would not as I am trying to eliminate as many of those as I can . Looking at the pictures it could be oxidized stainless but then it also could be galvanized that is oxidized ,for grins try a magnet . Something that size I think I would just find something to line it . Thats just me .

So what are your thought left as is, if i added jade perch would they be healthy ? and if they stayed alive would it be ok to eat?
im trying to get rid of toxins to, trying to be as healthy as i possibly can.
i really want to buy one of murrys systems, i just want to learn more, and have the spare cash to i can go all out.. i wanna be able to provide quality food not just for myself but my entire family is possible.

Magnets don't like sticking to stainless steel. I would put a plastic liner in it or some rubber paint they use on water tanks.

ok well, i searched for about 30 mins trying to find a cheap rubber paint, was thinking ill use a pond liner and seal it up with that, looks like it will be the cheaper option.
i have one more question, it has been flooding and draining for about 24 hours, should i dump the water and refill the tank? wanting to put fish in the tank, maybe like 2 or 3 weeks once some bacteria has built up a bit, dont wanna risk any contamination for the fingerling's..

Sounds like a good idea .
I do not think I would be too concerned on the water being in for that short of time unless your PH is very acidic . I think part of the problem with AP is we run a very low PH ,compared to say aquaculture .That tends to etch the metals in a system leaching the bad stuff out . I do not think you will ever get rid of 100% of your toxins as they are in basicly everything including the water you drink. An all glass AP system with purified water might just be a bit over the top ! Cool looking till the algae set up house :D

thanks for your reply, yeah i know i wont be able to remove all the toxins, for e.g. the air.. but if i can avoid it i will, i really dont want any mercury in my food.
I went to bunnings this morning and got pond liner, stayed awake last night thinking about it..
god dam im dreaming about aquaponics to

Pretty much my thoughts ,can never get rid of it all but if I see something I can ,I do . Yup even the air is a problem but the biggest is city water too much stuff that does not get filtered out and too much added to keep us healthy ,boy thats a line !
Sleepless ,dreaming :( duh you gotta count fish to go to sleep now :D
Good Luck
