Just wondering if anyone is growing and eating/cooking amaranth.

I'm just trying to workout how big an AP system needs to be to feed
a person.

So it needs to supply one of the Staple foods (wheat/rice/potatoes/corn)
when I came across this chart.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice

scroll down to Synopsis of major staple foods

what caught my eye was the Amaranth.
It has the greatest KJ and protein per 100g
and is gluten free.

It seems like the perfect food.

Does anyone have first hand experience with this.

cheers Lou

never grown it but dad was given some a while back. From what I can remember it tasted like spinach and made you think you are bleeding from the bum the next day :p

Hmmm.... You just provided a very compelling reason for me to avoid amaranth at all costs. hehehehe

sorry I should have said it better
I meant it makes your stools red , as it has the same red pigment as beet
