Hi a question....

Is it possible to use coconut Husks as a grow medium? Reason for asking here is a lot of dry husk available in the philippines.

Hi Mingjohan,

Not a good idea it will break down and create a lot of fines and solids in your system, I would of thought.

Try 3/4 gravel without the quartz in it.

I used coconut husks in one of my growbeds. It was quite successful for about six months. Eventually, the husk fibres started breaking down. Some of it went mushy and stank so I took it out. Filtering it out wasn't ever an issue but if I left it in the GB I'm pretty sure it would have resulted in bad bacteria and fish deaths. Use it in pots. I think it doesn't like to be soaked in water, just damp is OK.
