Just a few questions about painting the Ibcs, with my (soon to be) setup I will have the sump burried and the GB'S on top, so....need I be worried about water runoff from the GB'S cage or painted sides going down into the sump? or is the Idea to have the sump lid designed so no water runoff/rain cannot get in?

Also, do I need to be worried about paint contaminating the soil? as my AP will be overlooking my soil vegie patch I would hate to have water runnoff into the soil and damage it or my health?

I understand Solar Guard is a good way to go on the IBC'S and killrust on the cages, then paint the cages too, like I said just concerned about contaminating the soil around the AP. Has anyone done the research here? Or know the deal?

Thanks guys - sorry for being so padantic :)

You dont want any rain or run off getting in your system it will mess with your water quality , i painted mine with solar guard , big job , easilly knocked off . I have used some leftover geotextile cloth around the goldfish system thats the black IBC in pic , much easier i attached it to the cage with cable ties then put liner back in you can use weed mat , shade cloth , whole host of recycle options put timber on cage and clad around the outside lots of really neat systems .

nice setup Terra!

Yeah I will use laserlight or similar on the FT/Sump Lids to ensure rain water does't get in, and above the GB's too. Do you know if water running off the Solar Guard could contaminate the soil below? or is that what your saying and I should try to use weedmat/geotextile instead.

Thanks
