These are Flathead or Mudcat catfish. The one I am walking away with was a small one that night.... the one we got to eat.
They were wild caught in a fairly large river on 16" minnows. We fish overnight, the action gets started after 1:00 am and goes until about 5:00 am.
These are predatory fish and hunt for prey unlike other types of cats... Mudcats have a barbed upper and lower jaw line, better to hold their catch by! I am wearing a glove for good reason!
