Does anyone have an update on the "bloke" who was trying to patent an aquaponics system? I looked through the forum and BYAP's forum but did not see any new postings.

Doesn't he run a forum... and write a blog.....![]()
I believe it was Colle Davis?? I wasn't aware of another.
I hope nobody gets a patent, leave the market open. If others want to make a system let them. I think ther's room for everyone who wants to give it a go.
The last conversations I saw were around a year ago so I was curious if anything changed.
From his website:
He may have a patent on his pump. Not on the principal of aquaponics. I'd be curious to know what his pump/sediment removal patent actually is.Colle Davis, the inventor of Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems, majored in the field of Renewable Natural Resources in 1972, at the University of California at Davis, and he’s been refining Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems for the past 38 years. After a career as a successful entrepreneur, businessman and consultant, Colle made the time to continue his research to reduce the chronic problems of tank sedimentS and he discovered a new pumping system that solved all the clogging problems in the fish tank and made it possible for the system to automatically remove the sediments from the fish tank without clogging the pumps to grow healthier fish and vegetables. This new system made it possible to fully automate the system using all his own unique engineering, so that anyone, anywhere, could raise their own food. In May 2009, Colle Davis received a patent pending for his Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems.

When I emailed him for more info on his systems, he offers a license to use his plans and a pump for 1000.00. No pictures of any systems, some long winded follow up emails, and the only options are for additional licenses. I hope no one is buying his waste products.
Yeah good old Colle... been doing aquaponics since Adam was a boy....
No... he's been a "successful entrepanuer", businessman, consultant, life coach and mentor.... for the last 27 years....
Thank goodness he's also a philantropist... and decided to use his talents as an aquaponics expert rather than retiring with all his successful wealth...
Grows 200lb of fish a year in 200 gallons, and 500 vegetables in a little greenhouse...
Well in fact ...
Year round. they enjoyed all the organic table vegetables, berries, tomatoes, and fish they could possibly eat with enough surplus to feed 50 people daily vegetables and one serving of fish per week, per person, for an entire year.Truely astonishing stuff.... the world should be beating a path to his door just because of that...With their three Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems (sizes: 10' x 12'', 10' x 20' and 20' x 30') they grew a total of 4,800 vegetables and 1,900 pounds of home-grown fish in one year.
But a "patented pumping system".... that removes solids from the system... and dissipates them into "thin air"....
Wow... why is he messing around with mere aquaponic plebs....
The worldwide waste disposal industry would make this guy richer than Bill Gates...
cough.. cough... bull****...
The mob from Nimbin have applied for a US patient on AP. You will remember they won one week on the ABC new inventors program. Just recently I sent a letter of protest to the US Patents office and Sylvia B's husband Alan followed it up and did some research on it. He feels the ao=application will fail on several fronts.
I will email him and see if he minds me posting his findings.
These Patent Pending applications are usually to do with getting investor funding. One question investors always ask. "What IP do you have, and how are you protecting it?:
Obviously, if you can say we have invented a break through process and we have a patient pending then it looks better to the investors.

Someone may be able to patent a particular device that could be used in an aq system....however, dont know about Australia and such, but here in the USA anyone can build anything...patented or not ...for their own personal use....
You just cant build a patented device to sell....if you are not the holder of the patent.....
I would like to know what type of fish and how many he grew to produce almost a ton in one year...
