Default Erich's little Barra system (second system)

Decided to get Barra over the summer however water is still a little cold outside. Have them safe in a 6 ft aquarium until the water warms up in the mini IBC system I have (pics below)

They are funny to watch, some not having fun in the 1200 litre per hr pump/filter in the aquarium. Very shy creatures, some laying on a 45 degree angle which spooked me however they take of quick and appear to be ok (hoping it's the current). I added a few storm water fittings so they can hide a bit

Pics below - will keep you updated

If the siphon will not start there is not enough water flow.....if it will not stop there is too much.

    Hey Erich,

Lookin good... a red IBC!... is that so the fish grow faster?

Up until a week ago I had my Barra in a 600Ltr Aquarium for about a month and they tended to school and they would all be on a 45 deg lean, I don't know why they do it, but I wouldn't worry about it.

kewl dude - thats what they are doing. When they go over 45 degrees, they get a wag up on thier tail and swim off. Funny looking at 10 bunched together all leaning

a real little bit of Nitrites and <0.25 of Amm and all else fine - not feeding

Lol - thats the only outside paint I had spare

They seemed to have "straightened up" a bit

Huddling together and all doing well, bumped the temp up to 26 and will feed tomorrow afternoon

    Hi Erich,

did your trout woof down that 9mm food or haven't you got to that yet?

Those barra are cool little fish,I'm glad you got them at 100mm, I got all mine at that, and don't have trouble with them eating each other yet.

Not a bad idea putting in somewhere they can hide at least until they get used to everything.

    Cheers.

yup - hit it like freight trains

Barra have also settled a bit - all swimming straight and just looking around - all good tonight

They are zooming around flat out. looks like they are foraging, looking for food. They can eat tomorrow morning

Mine were also 10cm when I got them. When they were in the aquarium they didn't give a rats ring when I walked up to the tank, in fact they used to follow me as I walked past, but since I've put them in the AP tank they've become very jittery.

I had the lid on for the first few days, but each time I took it off to check or feed them, even slowly, all 10 of them would take off in 10 different directions and SMASH thier heads against the wall. For the last few days I've been leaving half the lid off and hoping they're smart enough not to jump out, so far so good, but when I walk up to the tank, even slowly, they still sh-t broken glass and smash into the walls, they must all have brain damage by now.

I'm thinking of putting fruit tree netting over the top instead, just so they can see me coming.
