    Default Chomp's gota start somewhere

hi this will be my first aquaponic atempt i am excited but also concerned i thought i would show what i have done to start with .

i purchased a 1000 letre ibc and have cut the top off to make it a 800 letre tank and the choped top will be the first grow bed i also have a 1750 l/h pump
and got my hands on some scoria for the grow bed . i have done some calculations and i am not sure if they are correct but i thing the tank should drop by aprox 65 letres when the bed is full of water . dose this mean i have a 800 letre tank or a 725 letre ? will upload pics wheni figure out how.

    Hi Chomper
    Welcome to the forum

You are correct, but realistically the fishtank will not be filled to the
brim hence at most will only hold 700 litres.

The end result is that your fishtank volume will vary from 700 to
    635 litres.

    cheers Lou

Chomper, If you haven't already, make sure you grind down that steel on the FT, or you'll have a problem when the GB has weight in it.

    Hi chomper,

When you cut the IBC the metal rungs that were cut at the top of the FT have to be ground down to the top horizontal rung of the FT...... no jagged edges. When the top part (future growbed) is empty it does not come in contact with the cut metal, but with the weight of growbed medium (pebbles, clay ball, etc) it will contact the FT.

If I'm not explaining myself well, please look at my thread in new DIY canada/USA, under "one week new" thread, and you'll see pictures of my mistake and my half ass fix for now.
