Thread: Auto syphon

    Default Auto syphon

Hi all. I'm in the process of expanding and reconfiguring my IBC system. Currently 3 GB's, 1 sump + 1 FT. Fairly std configuration of sump under GB's.

I have moved my sump so it is about 3m from existing GBs and am having trouble getting the syphoning to work again.

I'm getting back-presure lifting the bell units......also overfilling of the GBs.

I have added a breather pipe but has not helped.

In short I'm trying to bring three syphon outlets together then across to the sump.

Any words of wisdom....OR PICTURES...! please.

I will be posting the new and improved arangement in the near future.

    Cheers

    Paul

You will have trouble if you are trying to run the water too far, or too many bends in the outflow pipe, or if it is running uphill.
It is a good idea to run them into a larger collection pipe if you have a way to go....that can gravity feed back to the sump.
Here is a couple of pix that might help showing how to set up a siphon water collection pipe.

Have short lengths of downpipe from your siphons emptying into a larger, unsealed collection pipe that runs back to the sump, 90mm is good. Ideally use the same downpipes you were using before when the siphons worked, same lengths, shape, design etc, or as similar as possible.

    Cheers.

Thanks guys. I thought as much.

I'm trying not to have pipe where I (kids) can trip over them.

I'll draw something and post pics tonight.

    Qick up date.

This is my layout. Sump is 600 ltr sunken in the ground. It still sits about 200 to 250 out of the ground. GBs are 400mm off the ground.

It looks as though I'll have run returns around the back side (top of picture)

    Swirl filter Rod.

Pics are: the creation mark 3, the site & FT's with swirl filter.

Counted out my fish the other day when I had to move them to another tank.
Interesting how different the sizing is ATM. Great looking fish with bluey silver along the back.

I'll keep up with the changes but tomorow will pick up some 90mm pipe to sort out syphons and the conect the old FT in it's new possie. Then over comming week some new GB's.
