Thread: IBC system 6 weeks on

Default IBC system 6 weeks on

I am finally getting somewhere with my system, silly me purchased fish from a source that was supposed to be good, but after many complications I have found out differently, I am down to 10 Trout which are doing great and the plants are starting to power along now the nitrates are there.

I am wanting to have a continued supply of fish but I am not sure how to proceed.

I am told that silver perch won't feed and grow much for the next couple of months, so I will be harvesting off the 10 trout I have when it starts to get too warm and will be left with nothing.

I am thinking of putting yabbies in the sumps and installing another IBC F/T with silver perch as trout and small perch will not mix.

Apparently a lad from south of Perth has put a request in to fisheries for the possibility of jade perch as an option as they grow quicker.

I have made a video of my set up so far, not sure how to add link on here properly, but copy and paste should do it.

Your plan to get some silvers started is good. When the weather warms they will pick up their feeding and grow over summer . By then you will have your water quality really good and the next winter batch of Trout should be terrific.
Some yabbies is a good idea but make sure they cannot escape.

Separate tanks is a great idea as fish species, as a general rule, do not mix too well.

Jades are great, but need to be kept above 15 c to be ok.

Great setup! You can try the washing basket trick in the FT for the new Silver Perch, for the time being and then once you've made the 2nd FT place the Silver Perch straight from the washing basket to the new FT.
With the slow growth rate of the Silver Perch at this time of the year I'm sure they'd be right in a good sized basket for a few weeks.
