Thanks for the update & pic's Castaway,
Your GB's are definitely booming along!

Do you get much in the way of aphid/slug/caterpillar pest problems up there in Queensland?
Also, have you found much of a size discrepancy amongst your Jade Perch (my Silver Perch already show major size differences).

Cheers,
Shane.

Yes there is a size difference in Jade Perch Shane. Some of my fish are half the size of the larger fish. Had my fair share of bugs. No getting away from them but not as bad as some people here have suffered. Had a few cabbage moth caterpillars and stink bugs but only because I didn't use Dipel. Also had good predators like lady beetles, preying mantis and various spiders. Filmed a bunch of interesting tiny red ants having a feed on a dead grub perched on a leaf. If you look closely - there's always something to see

Your fish and veges looking good Castaway. On the subject of size difference, there are huge differences between my Barra, eventhough all started as fingerlings of the same size. I hvae eight survivors from an originally purchased 100 + and the biggest one is already plate sized in less than 7 months, while the smallest is the width of my hand.

With the Tilapia born in my pond even a greater range in size with some still only 6 cm while the largest from the same litter are approaching 30 cm.

Tilapia males are generally bigger in size so this should mean I have a good balance of m/f in the pond. The great thing about keeping Tilapia is that I don't need to buy new stock ..... although now and then I have introduced some new fish from the creek or fishing ponds to replenish the gene pool. I now have a few pink Tilapia characteristics showing up in some of the fish ... bigger fleshy fish.

Warming days starting to appear now as Winter seems to recede. Started cleaning some of the dead growth around the tomato bush and thinned out some of the green foliage today when it started to shower. Took a few snaps after the rain stopped...Anyone notice that Bunnings seems to be moving into stocking a wider range of heirloom tomatoes by Diggers?

Picked up a punnet of Black Russian Tomatoes which I have not grown before and am keen to try. I am delighted with the taste of the tomatoes we are getting from the system at the moment. Looking forward to trying other varieties like Cherokee Purple or Brandywine tomatoes as mentioned elsewhere on this forum by Mantis.
