Yeah mate boys have a pet turtle in the bath tub, pond always got dirty but the rocks work great as a filter and best thing with turtle you don't need to worry about ph levels see pic below of pond before GB and after[IMG][IMG]

Just be aware that turtles aren't recommended for use in aquaponics system where you will be eating the produce, as they are known carriers of salmonella and studies have shown some plants, lettuce in particular, have the ability to take salmonella up into the plant tissues.

It may be a good idea, just as a precautionary measure, to only use the turtle pond for growing ornamentals.

Boys are very happy with new tank, just quick one I have got Murray's book of plans and in his tote system hem pumps from sump to grow beds and FT then all drains back, atm I am draining from FT to GB then pump from sump back to FT.

Which is better or doesn't really matter ?

Love the ornamental tank. As I understand it. As long as the whole system is constant running integrated at any point in the system its good. Except the run off from a full fish tank maybe.
    Added airstones too.
Plans are written into my head about having an indoor fish tank for my favourite fish set above my TV (may have to rethink that).
Integrated into a front yard AP garden. (n)

Unless I missed it. Is this setup sheltered? From rain etc?

Yes Dan, it's in my shed going to drain out to GB and then pump back to FT, means my boys can see there fish a lot easier plus looks a little nicer

Another quick one, I'm looking at doing a tote system with the new fish tank, so 3 GB and a sump

Should I still bother with Solids filter or because I have so many growbeds it's not needed?

Always better to have a solids filter. Just a simple settlement tank will extend the service life of your grow beds.

Complete redesign, wish I study up more before I started and also bought Murray's book first. But it has been good fun and great experience [IMG][IMG]
