Product Details

These are the ones we've been using for years in our own aquaponics systems!

Great little polypropylene pots for aquaponics raft beds (DWC), media beds, and GroTowers, and for hydroponics NFT systems.

Start the seed off in one of these pots (filled with vermiculite) and, depending on the plant type, it could spend its whole growing life in the same pot!  Easily transfer your seedlings from the seedling-raising section into the raft bed, media bed, or GroTower.  Just lift the pot from the seedling-raising area and drop it into the hole in the grow bed or tower.  So easy!

You need to drill a 50 mm (2") hole for the pots in your floating raft.  And the raft itself should be about 50 mm (2") thick.  That way, the flat collar of the pot holds the pot just into the water under the raft, ensuring excellent moisture for the plant.

If you're using GroTowers, the GroPockets that we carry are designed to suit exactly this type of pot.  The collar of the pot will sit flat on the outer surface of the GroPocket, with the base of the pot perfectly placed to catch the water flow inside the Tower.  You get ten of these pots in our GroTower Kit.

When planting into media beds, simply scrape a hollow in the gravel, place the pot into it, and push the gravel back around it for support.  Easy!

When it comes to harvesting, it's a simple matter of lifting the pot out of its hole!  You can cut or break off the plant at the level of the pot, or pull the roots through the slots in the pot to release the plant from the pot.

These pots are reusable!  We get multiple uses out of each one.  Once you've removed the plant, empty out the remaining vermiculite and clean the pot.  Be as thorough as you can, to avoid any risk of spreading pathogens.  We soak the pots in a 50:50 mixture of methylated spirits and water, and then scrub them.

You'll find that they're not a good idea for root crops (carrot, beetroot, etc), or for anything that will form a large root ball.  In root crops, the pot will cause misshapen roots; and large root balls make it nearly impossible to extract the pot for re-use.  You're better off removing the seedlings from the net pots and planting directly into the growth medium.

Pot size - 50 mm (2") high x 44 mm (13/4") at the neck x 30 mm (1 1/4") at the base.

Excellent pots for most types of plants in aquaponics or hydroponics.  We've relied on them for years!

NB:  Some seconds are available.  They are seconds because some are slightly misshapen but all perfectly useable.
A great deal for the home system operator.
