The Autosiphon - an essential part of every media bed!

How does it work?  A constant in-flow of water gradually fills the bed.  The holes in the outer cover and the bell let water into the autosiphon.  Once it reaches the depth of the upstand inside the autosiphon, the water starts flowing down through the upstand and out of the bed.  This creates the siphon effect under the bell, which keeps drawing water out of the bed.  Once the water level in the bed gets low, air enters the holes in the bottom of the bell, which 'breaks' the siphon effect - the water stops draining out of the bed, and the bed starts filling again.

Works reliably all on its own.  No need for timers.  No need for manual release valves to drain the bed.  Just set up the autosiphon and it will run itself - time after time after time!

With no moving parts, it is very easy to set up and maintain. Once properly balanced with the incoming water flow, it requires very little maintenance - just a bit of a clean now and then, and a check for roots or media getting in to it.  A reliable piece of equipment that will serve you well for years.
